A few short weeks ago hundreds of young fashion hopefuls clamored into the Hudson Theater in New York to hear leaders in the fashion world speak and impart their advice for the sixth annual Teen Vogue Fashion University. Students got a behind the scenes look from top designers such as Vera Wang and Michael Kors, heard from social media darling herself, Aliza Licht (more commonly known as DKNY PR girl), and even got a few words of advice from Teen Vogue editor, Amy Astley. There were no shortage of questions ranging from what employers look for in an intern, to how to get a fashion blog more exposure, to how to get your foot in the door in the fashion world. All attendees who essentially could represent the future of the fashion world were ready to take in every piece of information given. Renowned designer Michael Kors in his webinar said, “I think the biggest thing is to keep your focus. Hone what you believe in and be ready for what’s next and new. Because guess what? Fashion will always hit you a curve ball, no matter what. Just when you think you know the rules, the rules change.”

Happy Friday! We’re just reminiscing on some great memories and press from AFWNY 2011. We were featured in Okay Africa with an amazing feature that includes a slideshow and video footage of AFWNY. Take a look at the link to see the full slide show and take in all the elegance of AFWNY 2011. We can’t believe it was almost four months ago! We have already begun preparations for AFWNY 2012 and before we know it we’ll be taking in a whole new set of glorious African fashion.
Vlisco and renowned fashion illustrator, Sabine Pieper recently collaborated to create one of the most amazing ad campaigns the fashion world has seen to date. The campaign is titled ‘Delicate Shades’ and is stunning in every way imaginable.
The new collection consists fabrics, fashion, bags, and accessories and is available now in Vlisco Boutiques and on the Vlisco website. Design plays the starring role in the campaign as Vlisco reinvents its uniqueness and creativity with illustrations of women in motion. An inspiring double layer technique using different patterns was utilized in this collection and if you view the fabrics at different angles, the pattern appears to change and blend into one original masterpiece. The strong earthy tones Vlisco has used in the collection are balanced out by bright yellows and pinks to create a gorgeous eye catching piece every time.

A feature story covering Adiree and AFWNY recently graced the pages of Le Rapport Minoritaire. The magazine, which is dedicated to finding diversity in design, came across the work we’ve done for the African community with AFWNY and felt that we fit right in with the other entrepreneurs and innovators in their magazine, including Tyra Banks and Iman. We were very excited to get a chance to work with Le Rapport Minoritaire because we love how they are promoting diversity on their end as well, bringing new creative individuals to the forefront and showcasing talent in design. Take a look at the feature on pages 43-44 of the magazine here.
Ever since the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) released that they were going to schedule Milan Fashion Week next fall from Sept. 19th to 24th, the rest of the fashion world has been in panic mode. For years fashionistas have peacefully coexisted and dashed from country to country attending perfectly planned fashion weeks one after the other. With Milan making these changes, it would conflict with the final day of New York Fashion Week, which was scheduled to run until Sept. 20th, and it would overlap London Fashion Week entirely which is set to run from Sept. 21st to the 24th. This scheduling conflict is not any little tiff with Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman of Condé Nast International already releasing a statement opposing the change of dates of the Milan Fashion Week declaring that various international editors of Vogue would not be attending any shows in Milan if they conflicted with other international shows. The claws are really starting to come out, but why can’t we all just take out our planners and rearrange a few things. Isn’t the fashion world a much better place when we can all give each other chic air kisses instead of taking off our Louboutins and trying to beat each other with them?

An article on Fashion PR ans social media was recently released by Apparel Insiders and Crosby Noricks of PR Couture (http://bit.ly/o0G1mm). Noricks has had seven years experience in the fields of fashion, consumer marketing, fashion blogging, and PR. We definitely agree on most of these fashion PR faux pas she has listed regarding Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, and at Adiree we’d like to think we aren’t part of those naughty fashion PR people that are “getting it wrong”. We are very pleased to see that she recognizes that some of the greatest fashion success stories have come from the PR department being in charge of the realm of social media. Take a look at the article and maybe you could learn some good info on fashion PR and social media, it’s always a great idea to share knowledge with industry insiders.
