For those looking to get into the fashion or PR business, you have to have heard by now about the importance of finding an internship. Interns clamor over some of these coveted positions at top design houses. The issue of whether or not interns should be paid has been debated over for some time now, but with new laws in London making it mandatory that all interns are paid at least minimum wage it leaves some to wonder what will happen to smaller fashion companies then depend on this unpaid labor to stay standing.

The New Year brings all of us a chance to start over, and it gives us a chance at a fresh start.
In the PR world it’s so easy to get behind in your work, so we’ve made a list of a few New Years resolutions that are suitable for the business world that will keep us all on track in the new year
So many people have thought about starting their own business or becoming an entrepreneur, but for whatever reason-or excuse- they never find the motivation to get started.
This year when you start thinking about your new years resolution, let 2012 be your year to take a risk and start a new business, and let Interviewher.com be your motivation (did anyone else just start singing that Kelly Rowland song in their head?).
Last year, Jenny Ortiz launched the site in an effort to showcase the stories of female entrepreneurs and since its inception everyone from photographers, to bakers, to boutique owners have been clamoring for a spot on the website which only features the most fresh, fun, and exciting businesses. Take some time to look around the site and hear the inspiring stories of these successful women who not too long ago may have been just like you and were wondering exactly how they were going to become an entrepreneur.

The gorgeous Somalian model, Yasmin Warsame, is no stranger to the fashion industry. Named “Most Alluring Canadian” in 2004 by Fashion Magazine, she has since been feature in Vogue and Elle, and has walked runways for the likes of Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Most recently, she posed for an editorial in Flare Magazine titled “Dress Rehearsal.” The shoot , which was photographed by Andrew Soule, had a vintage glamor feel with lots of lace and tulle and over the top, yet elegant jewelry. The luxe feel was given a modern chic twist with brightly colored cotton-candyesque wigs styled by Tony Masciangelo and fashion director, Elizabeth Cabra.
Take a behind the scenes look into the making of “Dress Rehearsal” with this video.

If you haven’t heard about it by now, the New York Times has released an iPad app appropriately named “The Collection.” The name gives a nod to the theme of fashion, while also serving as a veritable collection of coverage from the Times’ fashion & style section.
The app is a one stop shop for fashion giving exclusive photos, information on new products, interviews, fashion reviews, and allows you to easily share favorite articles with friends. The one issue users might find is that all content is free…until March 14, 2012 when some content will remain free only to NYT subscribers. Customer reviews are raving about the app, one even saying that “Vogue just doesn’t compare.”
With the year coming to an end, PR professionals all over the world are reassessing the choices they’ve made over the past year and looking forward into 2012. PR pros are always looking ahead as to how to gain more publicity for their clients and grow their brands.
Over the past year it has become increasingly evident that the realm of social media and the ever-growing blogosphere should not discounted, with social media platforms becoming just another place for rumors to start flying i.e. Stefano Pilati’s impending dismissal from YSL (not true!); PR pros have needed to be on their game more than ever.
One of the most exciting things we’ve seen is a real embrace of the blogosphere from some major players in the Public Relations game. A marriage was formed between traditional PR professionals and bloggers when Proenza Schouler’s PR reps encouraged them to talk to the Independent Fashion Bloggers just before they showed their critically acclaimed line at New York Fashion Week.
2011 was a big year for change, and I am excited to see what 2012 brings to the world of fashion and PR.

Are you constantly getting distracted? Trying to multi-task? Wishing there were more hours in the day? For many businesspeople, especially in the world of PR it seems like our to-do list never shrinks, but according to an article from Inc.com there are certain things that highly productive people know how to do that others may have trouble accomplishing.
1. Work backwards: Putting a huge task to accomplish at the top of your to-do list is quite possibly the easiest way for you to never get it done. Start small and beak down the steps to what you have to do to reach that goal so you can lay out the framework and work towards your final goal.
2. Stop multi-tasking: Switching back and forth between projects slows you down and allows your brain to wander. It is better to focus on one task at a time so you can systematically go through your list and give each task the full attention it deserves.
3. Be militant about eliminating distractions: Lock your door, put your cellphone away, ask your co-workers for some time free of distrubances so you can focus on the task at hand.
Fred ad (left), David Yurman ad (right)
You’ve heard the old adage “Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,” but in the fashion world, imitation is a down right crime. Not only is the increasing problem of counterfeit luxury goods a multimillion dollar business, but David Yurman is seeing a whole new form of imitation.
Yurman used British supermodel, Kate Moss, in an ad a year ago and is now calling her most recent ad campaign for Fred, a Paris-based luxury jeweler “Embarrassingly similar” to his own. While yes, the ads do seem somewhat similar, especially since it’s the same model, but unfortunately for David Yurman, it’s not hard to find ten more high fashion ads that look exactly like this with sultry looking models and wind-blown hair.

Megan Isaacs has done what some would think to be nearly impossible, taken something that is nearly valueless and making it into a piece of luxury jewelry. Forbes Magazine has declared Isaacs’ Penny Necktie its item of the day. The designer, who showcased her high-end, luxury designs during AFWNY 2010 and has since been featured in Elle Magazine and had her designs worn by celebrities on Gossip Girl, was inspired by the rising cost of metal and simultaneous penny debate (how a penny costs more to make than its face value). Adiree, the parent company of AFWNY, led by Director Adiat Disu, reached out to Forbes knowing that Isaacs designs would be the perfect fit for this particular publication creating. Disu has “coined” her brand as culturally luxurious and creative.
