Foursquare, the location based social media site which allows users to check-in at various locations, share tips with friends, and unlock badges while letting the user explore their city has just gained its highest profile user to date. President Barack Obama has joined the social media site and will soon be sharing different places the president has “checked-in,” information on different historical sites, and some very special insider info only Foursquare users will be able to access. The site is going to be used primarily when the President embarks on his economic bus tour across the Midwest where the White House will be creating different check-in locations for presidential events, and sharing what is going on inside the oval office and around the world. The first tip was posted on the Foursquare page yesterday where the White House shared that President Obama gave a speech in Minnesota where he discussed ways to grow and strengthen our economy. Team Adirée will be paying close attention for more updates on what’s going on inside the White House and with President Obama’s bus tour, and you should be too!

A recent article in the New York Times, first published on August 4, 2011 at 12:00 am, titled ” New York in Design and African in Decor” by GAIA PIANIGIANI, discusses how a couple in Florence, Italy merges Africa and New York in the design of their home, and selection in decor. Mr. Gaon, New York-born architect, and Ms. Tarini, born in Zambia to Italian parents stated “Our home is New Yorker in design and African in decoration; it’s our two souls…”
Does the theme Africa meets New York sound familiar….?
During Africa Fashion Week in New York July 11-17 2011, 500 to 1,000 fashion enthusiasts, press, celebrities, stylists and more snaked around the Financial District and past the New York Stock Exchange, waiting for international and local African designers to showcase their masterfully designed “art”.
All attendees shared a common goal : to watch a union – the marriage of Africa and New York in a fashionable blink of an eye.
At Adirée, parent company of the trend-smashing event Africa Fashion Week | New York, we are immensely familiar with the founder’s mission of bringing Africa to New York.
” International Clients that create luxury African art, fashion, home décor, and specialty foods are who we represent and bring forth in the New York market,” says Adda Tidjani, public relations and event public relations associate at Adiree.
The marriage of the two: – “Africa” and “New York” truly guarantees a child with striking features, wit to whip competing mates into shape, and the propensity to exceed all expectations. The constant merger of Africa and Capitals known for luxury, art, fashion, and specialty foods will be highly regarded and acknowledged internationally.
I’m hoping – perhaps on my knees, that New York Times and the rest of the National esteemed media giants in New York will not overlook what Adiree and sponsors like Origin Africa have created in their backyard of New York, clearing throat- em.. em..Africa Fashion Week New York.
A loving, yet stern disciplinary tap on New York Times’ hand, for pushing an article with this title, and not mentioning such an initiative (AFWNY) in its back yard. However, kudos for jumping on the band wagon for the previously conceived notion of Africa meets New York.
Regardless, a special kiss and hug to Ms. Planigiani for seeing the significance of the union and writing a story on the artistic combination of Africa and New York.

She got to experience firsthand the beautiful handcrafts made and got to see the work that one of our AFWNY sponsors (Origin Africa) does for the continent. For Africa Fashion Week New York, Origin Africa sponsored designer, Fikirte Addis of Ethiopia, to come and showcase at AFWNY after winning a competition to earn her spot on the runway. 54 Kingdoms, the clothing line that has always strived to bring members of the African Diaspora closer to their roots through fashion, is being recognized for their philanthropic ventures. Nana Poku, Kwaku A. Awuah, and Brey Golding have come together to create 54 Kingdoms and let people discover their own identities in their fashion. While they are not designing and taking over the world of fashion, the creators of 54 Kingdoms are giving back. With their work with the Community Outreach Initiative, the Built for Haiti Campaign, and the fact that each piece of clothing you buy from 54 Kingdoms helps give back to the community they are building up some good karma, and finally earning the recognition they deserve for all their charity work. 54 Kingdoms was recently nominated for Philanthropic Small Business of the Year in the 3rd Annual Classy Awards.
